Hello. Today I will be sharing with you 5 great books to read while on the dialysis machine. Some of these books a friend/patient told me about them or I ran across the titles.  I figure I would share 5 of them to you. My disclaimer is to always consult your doctor prior to taking another diet approach.

1. The first book is "Dialysis YOUR way" written by Antonio Richardson a former dialysis patient. Within this book, he goes into depth about his experience on hemodialysis. He has now received a transplant and has been on the mission to educate and share the lessons he learned while doing in-center treatment.

2. The second book on my list is "The Renal Diet Cookbook for the Newly Diagnosed" written by Susan Zogheib, a registered dietitian and leader in the field of renal nutrition. She lays out an easy 30-day meal plan for a kidney health diet and lifestyle. Great book to have.

3. The name of this yummy book on my list is "Smoothies for Kidney Health". This book is written by Hulett JD, Victoria L., and Waybright RN, Jennifer L (kidney donor, who is a registered nurse, and her mom, the recipient of her kidney). Together they have taken their knowledge and experience to create a resource for individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). They share how the kidney function is impacted by the foods we consume and they offer a simple way for patients to help slow down, stop, or possibly reverse the many effects of CKD.

4. The fourth book on my list is "Dialysis Without Fear". This book was written by psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Offer, his Marjorie Kaiz Offer (dialysis patient)and Susan Offer Szafir (daughter).
Together all three reveal from their perspective on how life can be lived--and lived well--on dialysis. Drawing on his long medical career and more than seven years of personal experience with dialysis, Dr. Offer dispels many misconceptions surrounding this treatment, explaining how you can adapt to the new diet, travel, work and continue to partake in life's joys and celebrations. But the fears and hardships can be quite real, and Dr. Offer brings his years as a psychiatrist to bear as he provides practical advice on how patients can overcome them. Walking through each step of dialysis, he explains different types of treatment, examines the pros and cons of a transplant, and discusses side effects. Since dialysis affects the entire family, Dr. Offer and his coauthors also provide realistic insights into how relatives can cope and thrive together, sharing the humor, courage, and triumphs of real families who have successfully faced the challenges of dialysis.

5. The fifth book is written by Macharia Gakuru. He shares his emotions, anxieties and the burden of coming to terms with end-stage kidney failure in a way that only someone who has experienced this life-changing situation can do. He also talks about his journey to receiving a transplant, the clinical and surgical process. This books is candid and shares a unique perspective from the eyes of someone who has gone through it all.
