Many of my dialysis patients have complained about how they are can't get a good rest 💤due to the lighting/air and they either put their blanket over their head or a sheet. This is dangerous as sometimes when that is done the access is covered up and it should be visible at all times so the techs and nurses can make sure there is no needle dislodgment or bleeding.
Here are 3 good reasons you need to get a sleep mask
1. Safer
-Many dialysis patients are consuming sleeping pills and even alcohol to help them get that sleep in and that is not good. Sleeping pills can be addictive and alcohol is no good period. -This mask is better than covering the access while placing a blanket or sheet over your face.
2. Better sleep quality.
-You will get more rest because dark sleeping conditions increase time in REM ( rapid eye movement) sleep and decrease the frequency of you waking up.

3. Help reduce dry eyes
Many times the air conditioner vents are right above the patient's chair and the air can be very irritating. I have had several patients ask me to move them to another seat because of air pressure issues. Getting this mask can allow your eyes to be lubricated by your eyelids and protected. Dust and other particles that are floating around the unit are prevented from blowing on your eyes because it forms a protective barrier.
